Tuolumne River Regional Park Carpenter Road Floodplain Restoration
Project Lead: Tuolumne River Preservation Trust
Short Project Description:
This project will develop a 70-acre portion of the lands previously designated as the Tuolumne River Regional Park into a multi-benefit recreational space for the highly diverse communities of West Modesto. It will provide flood safety enhancement for adjacent neighborhoods, habitat for salmonids and other native fish, and extensive on-land and on-water recreational opportunities. Current project funds are for recreational and environmental improvements; needed flood system improvements, including design and construction of a levee to protect the Airport neighborhood from flooding, will require additional funding at an estimated cost of roughly $5 million.
